Mount Sinai was the place where the Israelites received their 10 guiding commandments to life - a place of revelation. Over Yom-Kippur 2020, a rabbi at one of the synagogues presenting the ‘holiday’ online asked the question if the pandemic was our Mount-Sinai moment? You might ask.. what does that mean? It means.. was the pandemic a moment of revelation for you about things in your life.. changes you might want to make?
The pandemic destroyed jobs – forcing many Americans and people across the globe to work from home and forcing others to risk their lives for the rest of us. It killed the vulnerable – robbing us of people we love through early deaths. It threatened us in many ways.. our health, our livelihoods, our mental well-being. It reminded us we’re not immortal. For some, it redefined what is important. It made us slow down and look and check out what we might want to change to improve our lives and increase our security.
For those of us suffering with dietary issues – in need of a healthy eating and exercise routine, it gave us time to think and speculate about what we might be doing wrong and how we might fix it. IF you were lucky enough – as I have been – to have a nutritionist and exercise-guru with a zoom ap to help me resolve those issues, you probably have found a way to change your life forever. The pandemic gave me an excuse not to have to do anything – not to have to go out.. just to stay at home, to read.. and think (reflect), but it also gave me a guide to find answers needed in my life.
Through a zoom-program I joined, I have been given the knowledge and ability to create my own guide to a healthier life. I have been given tools for a better understanding of nutrition – tools to set me on a path replacing crash diets with healthy eating habits – and enabling me to find an exercise program suited to my needs and interests. Being a creature of habit, I have learned – that I need periodic refreshers to reinforce the learning that I began in this program – to enable me to turn knowledge I acquired into habits that rob dieting of its suffering – to improve and find greater enjoyment in life.
