We’re now becoming aware excessive weight is almost always a health problem, so dieting and lifestyle change is essential if I want to live without chronic pain and suffering for my time remaining.
The first requirement of dealing with excess weight is diet. Everyone who has dieted has suffered hunger and craving, the difficulty of keeping a disciplined eating regiment, food-portion control, not knowing what to eat, or not wanting to eat recommended foods; and I’m sure there are more issues on your personal list.
Second, a new discovery for me – exercise is an essential factor in my health and obesity problem. I’m lazy. With best intentions, I put off my exercise requirement later and later into the day; and I’m certain – 20-30 minutes a day or hour-long walks 3-4 days a week – are simply not enough exercise for my body.
Related to exercise is inactivity – whether from lack of interests or other factors; sometimes, we simply don’t have anything in our lives or we have too much and don’t spend enough time on ourselves – my problem is the computer. I’m retired and I LOVE sitting at the computer all day and late into the night – and they’re telling me health also suffers from lack of sleep.
Finally, I need a support group, and that’s where a nutritionist comes in. We haven’t reached the stage where we use the nutritionist like a personal trainer who works us out several times a week or inspires us, like a psychiatrist to listen and help, or an AA support group - but that’s what I need. I need help with awareness and support. There are so many issues. Something as simple as not-shopping-right-for-my-needs can contribute to a diet fail. So I need someone to work with me on how to exercise, menu plans and recipes, or simply inspiration – or the result for me will be an early, painful death.
